Yoga & Pregnancy : why take up prenatal yoga

Pregnancy is an extraordinary time for some and difficult for others. For all, creating moments to take care of yourself is essential... And prenatal yoga is a great way to do it. Cécile, our certified prenatal yoga teacher answers your questions and explains why it's important to get started!

Prenatal yoga can be quite energizing and dynamic - we work on our stability and flexibility - it can even be Yoga vinyasa (fluid and dynamic chained postures) or adapted Hatha flow (dynamic chained postures but at a slightly slower pace).

The course can also focus on relaxation. For my part, I like to propose a balanced session with a Hatha flow part and a relaxation part, in order to allow mothers-to-be to stay in great shape thanks to yoga but also to leave the class relaxed and with a feeling of general well-being! It is also a space of freedom and fun, where our creativity can express itself through movement and variations of postures. On the mat, there is no external dictates, just the pleasure of being in communion with oneself, in a caring atmosphere!

3 GOOD REASONS TO PRACTICE PRENATAL YOGA :

1. TO LEARN HOW TO BREATHE
Pregnant, it's a great time to cultivate your breathing: essential to help us during delivery, it's also essential to find more space in our body when baby takes up all the room, or to learn how to relax when you feel overwhelmed by all the changes of pregnancy!
In fact, it is also a time when learning to relax and let go makes sense. Breathing combined with movement and relaxing postures are therefore very precious tools.

2. TO MOVE & FILL UP WITH ENERGY
If we choose a dynamic approach to prenatal yoga, in addition to working on our breathing and our ability to relax, we take the opportunity to deploy our energy, cultivate our mobility, our anchoring, our balance and our overall tone. However, these are often left aside during pregnancy when certain physical activities become contraindicated!
Practicing prenatal yoga is therefore an undeniable asset to feel ready and in shape for the very physical experiences of childbirth and motherhood.

3. TO REFOCUS AND PREPARE FOR CHANGE
Prenatal yoga is a precious moment for oneself at the dawn of the great upheaval that is the birth of a child! This special time allows us to center ourselves, to relax, to be well in our body and mind at the heart of the changes we are going through. It is a space of freedom and a way to take care of ourselves, for ourselves, because we need it, but also to allow us to welcome our child with more serenity and therefore positive waves.
