The meaning of the mantra Om Benza Satto Hung

Om Benza Satto Hung, an essential mantra in the Buddhist tradition, is the short version of a prayer called "100-syllable mantra".

In the original variant as abbreviated, it is in any case a powerful invocation of divine purity, embodied by Vajrasattva.

We tell you a little more about this mythological being, and about.

The Mantra of Purity

In the mythology of Mahayana Buddhism, there is a mantra dedicated to Vajrasattva, known as the Prince of Purity. His name can be translated as "Incarnation of Reality/Being". The illustrations and statues depicting him depict a young man full of vitality, displaying all the attributes of royal wealth. In addition, his purity is symbolized by his immaculate white complexion.

Some schools of Buddhism perceive Vajrasattva as the embodiment of the student who, through practice, attains a state of purity and enlightenment even more subtle than that of his master.

Tibetan Buddhism generally associates it with purity. It is invoked to "cleanse" karma, and to promote inner peace and enlightenment.

Its original mantra of invocation is often referred to as the 100-syllable mantra:

Oṃ Vajrasattva Samayam
Anupalaya
Vajrasattva Tvenopatiṣṭha
Dṛḍho Me Bhava
Sutoṣyo Me Bhava
Supoṣyo Me Bhava
Anurakto Me Bhava
Sarva Siddhiṃ Me Prayaccha
Sarva Karma Su Ca Me
Cittaṃ Sreyaḥ Kuru Hum
Ha Ha Ha Ha Hoḥ
Bhagavan Sarva Tathagatavajra
My Me Munca
Vajri Bhava Maha Samaya Sattva
Ah (Hum Phaṭ)

Rest assured, however, we present this version for your information! There is an abbreviated version of this purifying mantra with powerful energy: Om Benza Satto Hung

Both versions (long and short) of this mantra are used for the purification of karma. However, the long version is generally used for funerals or any other ceremony where the lifting of the karmic charge is indispensable.

The meaning of Om Benza Satto Hung

In general, Om Benza Satto Hung can be interpreted as follows: I invoke the supreme and purifying power of the universal spirit.

While there is no word-for-word translation of the shorter version (because it is a variant that "crystallizes" the essence of the whole prayer), the 100-syllable mantra can nevertheless be divided into several parts:

• O Vajrasattva, honor the sacred chord,
• Reveal yourself as a vajra (literally, "diamond", representing purity),
• Be consistent with me,
• Be happy for me,
• Feed my soul,
• Be passionate about me,
• Guaranteed my success,
• And in all actions, keep my mind clear,
• O the Blessed One, vajra of those who are in bliss, do not forsake me,
• O be of the great contract, be bearer of the vajra.
